Problem solution
Under the ROCEM project, the Chemical and Technological Department of The Monuments Board of the Slovak Republic has been participating in the solution of the following assignments:Obtaining of historical and archive data in Slovakia:
• Information on the manufacture, exports and imports of Roman cement in Slovakia
• Literature search, survey of published literature, articles, texts etc.
• Overview of the Roman cement use in Slovakia – research of buildings from the 19th and early 20th centuries, survey and documentation of the scope and preservation state of initial plaster layers and decorations.
Study of samples of historical mortars made from Roman cement:
• Representative sampling for later surveys and tests
• Grain size analysis of samples taken under the entire project
• Measurement of colour of the samples
Workshop:
• Organising a workshop devoted to the issue of Roman cement for professionals from the Slovak and Czech Republics – restorers, building companies, custodians of buildings, methodology specialists on care for historical buildlings etc
